Ruwanmali Samarakoon-Amunugama (Ruwan) is a Sri Lankan born, Canada raised, US residing multinational individual who wants to share her passion for authentic Sri Lankan recipes with the world. Her passion is not only to share the recipes, but also to share what she earns from it with the people in need in her native country of Sri Lanka. With that generous intention, she has pledged to donate a percentage of books sold through her book launch in Australia to Sarvodaya’s “We are One” campaign to help those in need amid the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka. Published and launched in Canada in 2020, this second publication will be in Australia in December 2022.
The “We are One” campaign by Sarvodaya identifies communities in need of food supplies, access to food and supply continuity and conducts various programs not just to replenish food items but also to establish sustainable food sources through food banks, community kitchen and home garden agriculture.
Ruwan is keen to be part of this program because it brings home her love for authentic Sri Lankan food and her love for her native country people of Sri Lanka.
